Of course, if you are a student, you
can just call me Mr. Kootman. At the end of
December 2008, I made the decision to leave my
classroom at Mary Fay Pendleton Elementary and begin
work with
Promethean, Inc. I am currently a teaching and
learning consultant for the company that makes the
Activboard and equally awesome products, such as the
Activote system. I love what I do and get to work with
great people!
I taught in the classroom for almost 7 years and have
experience in Kindergarten, 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7. In
that time, I was also the school's technology
coordinator and a key member of the district technology
committee. I was also a BTSA support provider and a
mentor teacher for student teachers.
I am originally from
coastal New Jersey. I received my bachelors degree
in psychology from Salisbury University in Maryland and
received my teaching credential from California State
University San Marcos. I also have a
master's degree in educational technology from CSUSM.
I have been a GATE consultant for
Mary Fay Pendleton, a Discovery Education STAR Educator
and a member of the
Discovery Educator Network
California Leadership Council. I also work with the board of Computer
Using Educators (CUE) to further the reaches of
educational technology. Additionally, I have been a
technology
consultant for a few companies and school districts,
where I have helped others increase their productivity with
technology.
I live in San
Diego County where I love to go for
walks with my dog,
Logic. If you have a tennis ball, he'll be your best
friend! I love sports and have
traveledall over the globe doing
the athletic activities I love. Ask me about them
sometime :) Most of the time you can find me surfing at Oceanside Harbor. You can also take a look
at my Flickr page.
If you have any questions on how to
use technology to make your life easier, feel free to
call or email me!
This
is a
link to my first attempt at video production
(2006) using
Microsoft Movie Maker. If you have
windows XP, then you have Movie Maker already and can
begin editing your own videos! It's simple! The
video is pretty rough and the acting is poor, but maybe
you'll be amused :)
